MERRY CHRISTMAS and HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

I wish you and all your families the very merriest of CHRISTmas seasons celebrating the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. I pray that you are spending it surrounding by family and friends and will create many happy family memories to cherish in the years to come.

I am traveling down to the USA to spend it with family and am excited to see everyone. I’m also excited to see the Heritage Makers gifts that I made and shipped straight to North Carolina. Can’t wait to see them myself and to see the kids faces when they open them. What wonderful memories we will create together.

I’ll be back next year – in 2012!! 🙂 Until then…..

What’s your style? VOTE for your top 3.

With over 5000 pieces of art work included in a Premier membership to Heritage Makers, I often find the options overwhelming! To do one tiny search for the perfect letter “a” results in over 250 possibilities – yikes!! But what I’ve found is that I gravitate towards certain styles of backgrounds, alphabets and embellishments more than to others. Yes, at times the subject of the page dictates the use of some elements I might not normally pick, but, still my personal likes and dislikes play a big role. In the end I find that my pages, and the ones that others have created that I am most drawn to, tend to have a similar feel to them.

I guess it’s a good thing there is so much choice. With this much variety there is enough to suit any artistic design. To prove my point I created a book called “What’s Your Style?” showcasing various types of pages that are easy to create with Heritage Makers. Each style has its own characteristics and feel.

So, now I want to know from you – WHAT’S YOUR STYLE? Take a look at the slideshow below and notice which pages really get you excited. Then take my poll and vote for your top 3 styles.

Share this with friends and family and have them vote as well.

Check back often to see the results.

CHALLENGE: Can you guess what my top 3 styles are??? Take your best guess in the comment box below.

Part 1: Roots update

So, as promised, I’ve started my own family heritage 12×12 scrapbook… just the album cover so far, but it’s a start.

You’ll find the link under “More Projects”. I had to post it right away as I am super excited to share it with everyone. 🙂

Let me know what you think.

Next up….the family tree!

“There are two lasting bequests we can give our children: one is roots. The other is wings.” – Hodding Carter (#1)

PART 1: ROOTS

Chronicling a family heritage.

Gone are the days when oral story-telling is how we learn about the family we come from. We so rarely sit around with family – immediate or extended – and share the stories of our lives. Not only is life incredibly busy, but in a day and age when people so often have to move away from family for employment, at times even overseas, quality face-to-face time with our families – parents, cousins, aunt, uncles, grandparents – is incredibly limited.

So, what can be done to record the stories of our parents and grandparents? How can we pass along to our daughters, sons, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren the family history that comes before them? What’s the answer? Create a timeless storybook chronicling your family heritage. Include family photographs, birth announcements, memorials, family letters, immigration records, school graduations, wedding bulletins, and SO much more. All in one beautifully, professionally published album.

This is one of my next projects – connecting with my ever elusive family roots that span 3 continents and 7 countries in the last 3 generations alone. Spread out over international borders has created challenges in building a strong sense of family history, but as I witnessed my sister gather up family documents and memorabilia I began to get a sense of where I’ve come from and who has gone before me. I know that out of this project will arise a sense of identity and comfort in knowing where my roots are from; a sense of belonging and acceptance as I trace family traits, interests, passions back several generations.

Join me on this journey into the past. Create your own storybook chronicling your unique family heritage with Heritage Makers. I’d LOVE to hear:

  • What incredible stories will you retell?
  • Which amazing people will you feature?
  • Where in the world will your journey take you?

Then, share these lasting treasures with your children, nieces, nephews, grandchildren. What better gift could you give?
